Under the aegis of Prof. Dr. Zainab Al-Mulla Al-Sultani, President of Al-Zahraa University for Women, along with the supervision of Prof. Dr. Noor Al-Dabbagh, Dean of Pharmacy Faculty, the Pharmaceutical Chemistry section hosted a scientific workshop on the safe handling of chemicals in pharmaceutical laboratories. The workshop was presented by faculty member Asst. Lect. Mohammed Hamza Harz.

The workshop aimed to raise awareness on the risks associated with chemicals and to teach safe handling methods. In addition, it also provided essential information about personal protective equipment (PPE) and emergency procedures in case of accidents.

It is noteworthy that key topics included an overview of chemical substances and their classifications, such as solvents, additives, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), as well as both natural and synthetic compounds. The workshop highlighted such health risks as poisoning, respiratory issues, allergies, and carcinogenic effects, in addition to environmental hazards like pollution and the impact of chemical waste on ecosystems.

The session also offered practical safety guidelines, including proper chemical storage, the use of appropriate containers, reading safety instructions, and the importance of PPE, such as gloves, safety goggles, and masks.

The workshop emphasized the importance of ongoing training and awareness programs for the University’s personnel and the regular updating of emergency plans to ensure a safe and sustainable working environment.
