About pharmaceutical chemistry:

A scientific discipline that combines chemistry and pharmacology with the aim of designing and developing new pharmaceutical compounds. Pharmaceutical chemistry is a unique department that deals in the study and development of new chemical compounds to suit different therapeutic uses:
In an attempt to increase its therapeutic effect and decrease its side effects, a lot of chemical and technical techniques are experimented and applied , a special study of the drugs used and their biological effects is also an important and significant part of the subject.

Word of head of department

The department is responsible for teaching various departments of chemistry,
including general chemistry, organic chemistry, heterocyclic compounds,
analytical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, and drug design.
Guided by its vision, the department aims to achieve success through a
comprehensive understanding of drug action and distribution among
different body organs. It utilizes various techniques to analyze drugs scientifically
relying on the fundamentals of chemistry, particularly organic and analytical chemistry.
The department teaches foundational chemistry courses before introducing
pharmaceutical chemistry
which applies chemical concepts to drug synthesis and analysis.
Special attention is given to clarifying the relationship between a drug’s molecular structure and both its pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, as well as its biological effects and analytical methods.
These chemical principles are essential for learning how to design and develop drugs, whether through traditional methods or with the aid of computer software.

This contributes to the quality of education in both general and pharmaceutical fields . The pharmaceutical chemistry department is keen to align academic programs with human needs in both general and professional pharmacy sectors. It plays an active and direct role in scientific disciplines. It is considered one of the most significant branches due to its close link with pharmaceutical formulation, nutritional chemistry, and its direct connection to various pharmacy disciplines. These include drug design, synthesis, development, discovery, and analysis—essential for exploring chemical structures and reactions, making it a key foundation for understanding numerous scientific areas The department is committed to providing students with comprehensive knowledge of basic chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, drug formulation, and development. It also introduces new techniques for drug analysis and application in their professional careers.

Vision

The vision of the Pharmaceutical Chemistry department involves teaching various fields of chemistry related to pharmacy and conducting research that provides students with knowledge and information, enabling them to become skilled pharmacists who contribute effectively to society.

Mission

Pharmaceutical chemistry is a unique blend of the physical and biological sciences.
The mission of the department is to provide students with a broad and diverse scientific background through a comprehensive and creative academic program. This includes our focus on drug design and discovery, organic synthesis of pharmaceutical compounds, the study of both organic and inorganic compounds and their medical and pharmaceutical benefits, as well as many other related topics.

Goals

The Pharmaceutical Chemistry department teaches and trains in various branches of chemistry over the five years of initial study, as follows:
Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Organic Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Advanced Pharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry
