Lect. Dr. Dhiaa Rahim Judeh Al-Tamimi published a piece of research entitled
“Berberine as a new neuraminidase inhibitor drug: a systemic review”
” in “Journal of herbal pharmacology” which is classified within the (Scopus)
containers and in the (third) quarter.
The review of the article included focus on the enzyme (neuraminidase)
for its important role in the reproduction of viruses, especially the influenza virus, so most antiviral drugs target this enzyme, including drugs currently used as chemical compounds.
As a result of changes in the binding sites in this enzyme with the chemical drugs used, which resulted in the virus's resistance to the drugs used and the failure of drugs to target the enzyme.
Therefore, in this article, we are looking for the effectiveness of Berberine as a natural herbal treatment that works as an antiviral and anti-influenza by targeting that enzyme.
The review article covers all the reliable global sites from 1990 to 2023 for the role of this herbal remedy
Studies have shown that Berberine and its derivatives are widely used in biological effects, including antiviral effects.
The current study also noted that the effect of Berberine as an antiviral appears through enzyme neuraminidase targeting.
